Engine Steam Cleaning

Engine steam cleaning

Engine steam cleaning is an effective and eco-friendly process that uses high-pressure steam to clean the engine bay of a vehicle.

It very effectively removes dirt, grease, oil and other contaminants from the engine and its components without the need for harsh chemicals.  Steam cleaning is useful for maintaining the engine’s appearance and performance, as well as for preparing the engine for repair or inspection.

Benefits of Engine Steam Cleaning:

  • Thorough Cleaning: Steam can reach tight spaces and hard-to-reach areas that traditional cleaning methods might miss.

  • Non-Abrasive: Steam cleaning is gentle on engine components, reducing the risk of damage compared to abrasive scrubbing or harsh chemical cleaners.

  • Eco-Friendly: The process uses only water, making it an environmentally friendly option that doesn’t rely on potentially harmful chemicals.

  • Improved Performance: Removing dirt and grime can help prevent overheating and improve the efficiency of engine components.

  • Easier Maintenance: A clean engine bay makes it easier to spot leaks, worn parts, and other potential issues, facilitating quicker and more accurate repairs.

  • Enhanced Appearance: A clean engine bay looks better and can increase the vehicle's resale value.

The Engine Steam Cleaning Process:

At WG Davies we follow a four-step process when steam cleaning.

  1. Preparation:

    • Cool Down: we ensure the engine is cool before starting the cleaning process.

    • Cover Sensitive Components: we cover electrical components, air intakes, sensors and other sensitive areas to protect them from water damage.

    • Remove Debris: we manually remove loose debris, leaves and dirt from the engine bay.

  2. Steam Cleaning:

    • Steam Application: Using specialist equipment we apply steam to the engine bay, starting from the top and working down, focussing on areas with heavy grease and grime buildup.

    • Detailing Brushes: For stubborn dirt and grime, we use brushes in conjunction with steam to remove contaminants.

    • Rinse and Repeat: Continue steaming and brushing until all areas are clean.

  3. Drying:

    • Wipe Down: We wipe down the engine bay to remove excess moisture.

    • Air Dry: Allow the engine bay to air dry completely before starting the engine.

  4. Final Inspection:

    • Check for Residual Moisture: Ensure all areas are dry, especially around sensitive electrical components.

    • Remove Protective Covers: Carefully remove any protective covers or plastic bags from the components.

Engine steam cleaning is best done by professionals to ensure it’s done safely and effectively.
